Fri 10 March - Back to it...

I'm not a big fan of going over to Perth at short notice. Don't get me wrong, it's a great place and there's always plenty to do. It's just that it is a fair old hike and the three hour time difference during summer is a real pain - the trip seems easier when it's planned. But there is another pleasant aspect to it - no Connex. And it's always good to be in a city where people openly praise their public transport system.

I'm late this morning, since I didn't get home until well after midnight. On the 09:11 and it's pretty much on time till we get to Richmond. We then wait for a while and eventually disembark at Flinders Street within seconds of the 5 minutes and 59 seconds limit, so we’re officially "on time".

The 18:01 is officially "on time" too, although in the real world it's about three minutes late.

Tue 7 March - Where's my camera...?

On the way out this morning, there's about a dozen ticket inspectors forming a semi-circle just beyond the barriers. I'd already gone through and out the exit before I remembered that my new phone has a half decent camera on it. Would've made a great shot... maybe next time.

The 07:14 rolls in pretty much on time.

Mon 6 March - A before B...?

After we had the kerfuffle (© Lou) with the 17:49 delayed while the 18:01 is ready to go (Thursday 23 Feb blog entry) I wrote to Connex requesting an explanation. Here's the main part of it -

"By way of background, the 1749 service (TRAIN A) is timetabled to terminate at Sandringham at 1817 and goes on to become the 1827 Flinders Street service. The 1801 service (TRAIN B) is timetabled to terminate at Sandringham at 1829 and the train then goes out of service. Due to the configuration at Sandringham station, TRAIN B must enter Sandringham after TRAIN A has left the station, as the 1827 service, in order to be parked.

As this is the case we are unable to run TRAIN B in front of TRAIN A, as this would effectively stop TRAIN A from arriving at Sandringham until TRAIN B has been parked."

Did you follow that? My reply was -

"And of course it would've been out of the question to just make Train A become Train B and Train B become Train A?!"

The 07:14 pulls in late enough to crack an orange this morning. The boom gates are malfunctioning at Ripponlea - that doesn't seem to have any material impact as the train comes through as normal, just a bit more slowly. But that won't stop Connex claiming it as a reason for lateness.

Home on the 17:38 and it's more or less on time.
