Thu 1 December - Sydney...

No Connex trains today as I'm in Sydney.

However, I take a Sydney train to get from Circular Quay to the airport - don't have to wait too long and it's quite quick. Certainly better than a cab on this occasion.

It looks like SMS alerts are back with a vengeance - four Sandy line cancellations today. Three are in the evening so this is probably the shape of things to come, as the trains seem to have an aversion to working when the temperature exceeds 30°C!

How fortuitous - while browsing these pages I just got a Connex SMS saying that the 4:54pm Mordi train from Flagstaff is cancelled. That is an hour in advance and although I wasn't going to catch that one, it gives plenty of time to organise a different train. THAT'S how it's supposed to work Connex!!!!

James, there were several of us in Sydney so it was cheaper to get a cab into the city, but I came home on my own and used the train. I tend to use a cab to get back out to the airport as Sydney trains are even more unreliable than Melbourne's, but I had left myself a bit of time so decided to risk it. Didn't have to wait too long so it was fine.

Sam, sounds better than ours. We had three Sandy cancellation alerts in the arvo/evening - 16:27 sent at 16:25, 17:49 sent at 17:48, 18:24 sent at 18:08. So you would've already been on the platform for the first two, the last one might've helped I guess. Glad I wasn't here!

Mrs CW, your nomination as chair of the Australian Pedants Association has been forwarded - you should be elected unopposed!

Well as usual, I spoke too soon. 34 degrees and very humid and one of the old trains rolls up as my train. All windows down, but no help. Get off drenched in sweat. A great end to any work day. Grrrrrr.

And as its pouring rain today ... whats this? The first cancellation SMS has arrived! Lets see if lightning can hit Caulfield again to complete the week....
