Mon 27 February - OK so far...

The 07:14 is on time.

When will I learn not to be so trusting? It might seem I'm the most miserable, cycnical, pessimistic bloke around if you read my rants in here. Despite that, I do try to be helpful sometimes.

Like last week when there's a bloke wanting to get change of $50 so he can use the ticket machines - you know, the ones that can't make change for more than $10! I didn't have it, but I had spare daily tickets on me so gave him one. He assured me he was a regular on the 07:14 and would return it the next day... haven't seen him since!

The 18:01 pulls in with seconds to spare then sits for a while. We arrive at Ripponlea about four minutes late. And where's the aircon? Why is it, just because it's only in the low twenties they think we don't need aircon? When you're running just a few minutes late you have that many more passengers crammed in - it gets hot and sweaty quite quickly. Turn the aircon on!

I had last Thursday and Friday off. It was bliss not having to deal with the mess of a train system we have. And this morning? Train packed even though the one before ran, and ten minutes late to boot.

Phil, your comments about the Games were absolutely spot on too. They've known for years and during that time have tried to drum up Public Transport as a viable mode of travel. With the help of petrol prices and the state/City of Melbourne's plan to make the CBD one big bike and walking path (taxing or fining everyone with a car who will try to enter), train usage is up just as they wanted and what do we get? A system that can't handle the new capacity (it never could) and then we get told NOT to use the trains for two weeks in March. Hey, thanks for changing your routine to use more PT but now you have to break it for a fortnight for the Games. Oh and mums and dads, we've thrown in a little surprise for you - it's school holidays as well!

Sam, there was an ad in the MX today (don't read it but looked over somebody's shoulder) that seemed to be pushing the "don't travel in peak hour" message. Nice that we're now paying for advertising NOT to use public transport!

Andrew, you're probably right. I don't understand why they think that unless it's 30°C+, we don't need aircon. And of course when it is that warm most of them don't work anyway!
