One man's perspective of the daily grind on board the Connex Melbourne metropolitan train system.

Tue 16 May - I can handle this...
The 07:14 arrives at Ripponlea about three minutes late this morning - consequently we pull into Flinders Street three minutes late. No, it didn't completely ruin my life, I'm sure I'll learn to deal with it after a few months of the appropriate therapy.
Home on the 18:01 and, by the most amazing coincidence, it's also three minutes late into Ripponlea.
Then multiply this with my charge rate and I can tell you right now that it has some significant financial impact on me in non billable time to that level that I am selling up and moving into town. Goodbye Connex.
Altough the economic impact due to lost tax revenue must be much higher.
Too bad for those who cannot afford the to buy in the City.
Out of trivia: Docklands wouldn't be too bad to invest in now. Come ten years, and a change in government operations you might see tram finally coming down from Collins Street.
Just found an article on The Age. Be prepared for more delays: CONNEX, the operator of Melbourne's suburban trains, has warned commuters to expect delays and cancelled trains for the remainder of the month....
And this made me laugh: "Connex is committed to being open, honest and accountable," a company spokesman said.
Open and honest?????? Where did they found this spokesman?
An extract from my first post best sums up what this is all about.
"Perception is reality" was one of the many glib phrases my ex-boss used to regularly use. Well my reality is that I have never had a full week of the train that I want to catch running on time. Let me rephrase that somewhat inelegant sentence - I don't believe that of the ten scheduled trains that I would wish to catch in any given week, all ten have ever run as scheduled. Ever. In over four years of commuting on the Sandringham line, my perception is that at least one train per week is either delayed or cancelled.
That's probably a pretty bold call, so to turn my perception into reality, I plan to keep a diary for a while and we'll see how often Connex can deliver me a full week of reliable services. Yes, I know that's a little self-centred, but isn't that the whole point of blogging?

Would you like to calculate how much time Connex has wasted your life?
I'd be intrigued to find out how many years it is...

Bye to Connex; say hello to Yarra Trams!

Not even Yarra Trams. My aim is to walk to work!

Are we all imagining our trials on public transport?

No mention of whether this is a Connex-sponsored stunt......
Bloody spammer (the poster before). Phil, why don't you turn on the bot check?
